It had to happen: movies in your pocket. Or rather, the SIFF movie schedule on your smartphone. SIFF’s searchable Web site is up and live today, and you can start buying individual tickets there tomorrow (Friday). One cute ancillary feature will also be mobile: “SIFFter,” which allows you to mouse around a massive tiled mosaic of titles, then parse and channel them through filters–e.g., genre, country, venue. The main SIFF Web site appears to be iPhone friendly (at least on a brief test with mine), with search functions and even ticketing (tomorrow) up and running. And you can get SIFFter on the Apple App Store as part of the festival’s other iPhone offerings, which it describes thusly: “Find the unexpected at the 2009 Seattle International Film Festival with iSIFF, a new iPhone application by POP. Find films, view trailers, and buy tickets for the festival right from your iPhone. Get the jump on other SIFF goers-buy your tickets while you wait in line!”However the app is only “coming soon,” and not yet available. Features promised include: SIFFter visual film filter; festival schedule; filter by country, genre, or venue; search by title, director, or keyword; venue list with links to Google Maps; and Twitter feed. No word on the price, but I’ll check when the app is available and perhaps give it a test.
