In the pantheon of local songwriters pining for a simpler, more satisfying life, Whalebones’ “I Don’t Wanna Live in the City No More” is the magnum opus, and also the least insufferable. Instead of prancing around the notion that a hard day’s work tilling the field is a more honorable way to live, Justin Deary comes out and shouts it. Yeah, he’s still in the city, he seems to be saying, but that doesn’t mean he’s not dreaming of something bigger and dustier. CHRIS KORNELIS myspace.com/whalebones
