Hyer in happier times.Olympia’s Joe Hyer learned this week that he’d be taking over as Thurston County’s new treasurer. He was also arrested for suspicion of marijuana trafficking. So depending on how his Valentine’s Day went, you’d have to call the last seven days a draw.According to prosecutors, a tip from a “concerned citizen” led to a two month-long investigation during which Hyer twice sold pot to a police informant.Hyer, the Mayor Pro Tem and a member of Olympia’s City Council, was booked under investigation of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a residence for drug purposes. He’s currently being held on $20,000 bail.In related news, if this initiative were to pass, Hyer would just be your average, baggie-in-the-freezer hook-up. Not a criminal.
