Hobosexual sounds like a meaningless play on words, but it actually has a dictionary—or at least an Urban Dictionary—definition: “the opposite of metrosexual; one who cares little for one’s own appearance.” For singer/guitarist Ben Harwood, the moniker is inconsequential (he has said his band’s name “doesn’t really mean anything”), but it happens to mesh perfectly not only with the duo’s long-haired and amply bearded appearance, but also with its sound—an unhinged and raw brand of swampy blues-rock, performed with the unself-conscious abandon the name suggests.
