Green Lake residents with an overwhelming desire to belly-flop into into the open pit of sadness located at the former Vitamilk Dairy site on Northeast 71st Street are hereby urged to wait until the city of Seattle fills the pit to the brim with “rainbow plastic balls.”Of course, the city of Seattle is not actually planning on turning the languishing site into a 1,200,000-cubic-foot ball pit, complete with bicycle, tricycle, and unicycle parking, but it’d be cool if this sign were accurate. My Green Lake has the story:The following sign was spotted this morning (Friday, August 19, 2011) at the former Vitamilk Dairy site, a three-acre empty lot of land frequently referred to as Green Lake’s “Big Hole”:John Creed/My Green LakeIt should be noted that the abandoned-construction-site-turned-ball-pit joke was first coined by Margaret Steck at Wallyhood for the “festering pit” at 3920 Stone Way N.Steck tells us that she’s not behind the sign, though she gives it an “A for execution!”Being that the Vitamilk store closed in 2003 and was demolished in 2007, it’s at least nice that the abandoned plot of land is serving some purpose, however comedic.
