Governor Chris Gregoire is looking for a few good ideas on how to balance Washington’s increasingly lopsided budget. Yesterday the Gov announced the creation of a new website where regular folk (just like you and me!) can go submit ideas, the best of which, she says, will be “considered” by state budget writers. (As in, laughed and/or sneered at.) But forget the cream of the crop, and focus instead on all the ideas that have government employees terrified.I’m not trying to suggest that the only people voting are those on the state dole. But it’s awfully suspicious that the least favorite budget-slashers are ones that would directly affect government employees’ bottom lines. Thus far, eliminating state-sponsored pensions and health-care plans has the most amount of negative votes, at 19. “Government Employees Should Take a Pay Cut” comes in at second-to-last, with negative-16. And cutting the pay of state workers by five percent is only two slots below, with 10 people hitting the “I disagree” button.
