He was staring at the metallic, Mexican-inspired decor of the just-opened Matador restaurant in Ballard, thinking it looked a lot like his own wildly popular tequila-and-nachos late-night hangout, Peso's.

My Mini-MusicfestNW: Sadly, the pragmatic choice of sticking close to Doug Fir on Thursday night meant bailing on the Scared of Chaka reunion (midnight over at the Ash Street Saloon) so that I didn't miss the return of Steel Pole Bathtub (1 a.m. at Doug Fir). Thankfully, watching SPB openers Red Fang melt everyone's faces off was a helluva consolation prize.

Luckily each designer had the opportunity to show some pieces from their upcoming line so we could see what they were really all about.
