Cute enough to risk getting shot? Yeah, probably.Pictured at right is Honey. Drink that little snugglepuss in. Now, imagine if Honey was yours, but got lost on the mean streets of Capitol Hill. To what lengths would you go to get your puppy back? If your answer falls short of getting into a car with a guy who claims he knows the dog’s whereabouts, and who also has a gun conspicuously tucked into his waistband, well than you just don’t love your pets as much as Brandon Bedford loves his. Honey had been missing for only a few hours when Bedford and his girlfriend began papering Capitol Hill with fliers offering a $1500 reward for the dog’s safe return. A 17-year-old male approached the couple, claiming to have bought Honey the night before. (The SW doesn’t name juvenile suspects). What happened next was predictable. Bedford’s girlfriend didn’t trust the suspect. But Honey is her dog too. According to charging documents, she flagged down a police cruiser and asked the cops if they could keep watch as Bedford had agreed to give the teen the reward in exchange for being taken to Honey’s location. As Bedford and the suspect drove, the cops followed. Soon afterward, they stopped Bedford’s car. After questioning the suspect, police pleaded with Bedford not to continue, sensing that he was about to get robbed. But court documents say that Bedford told police that he wanted his dog back. Curiously, the cops let that slide, and the two got back in the car and drove off, presumably to pick up Honey. Sometime later, Bedford’s girlfriend received a text message saying that he was being held at gunpoint. Bedford and the suspect ended up somewhere on the South end. Police say that the suspect allegedly produced a .22 caliber handgun, took the $800 of the $1000 Bedford had secured from his bank and took off. Cops caught up with the him a few days later walking on Pine Street and arrested him for robbery. Already on probation, the juvenile suspect has now been charged with first degree robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, and is currently being held on $500,000 bail. Meanwhile, Honey remains missing.
