Clark may have overestimated his fellow trooper’s loyalty.When off-duty Washington State Patrol trooper Coy Clark drove his car off a Puyallup road early Saturday morning, his first call was to the rookie officer that works for him.Clark, a 21-year veteran, apparently thought that the young man’s respect for his superior would keep him from reporting him for driving drunk. But the rookie surprised his sergeant by calling for back-up.When reinforcements arrived, Clark passed a breathalyzer but failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and has now been placed on administrative leave.The 22-year-old rookie who made the tough decision, meanwhile, is earning some well-deserved praise from higher-ups. “Faced with a precarious situation of ‘what do I do here with my sergeant that’s called me to help?’ he did the right thing reporting the potential misconduct,” says Capt. Jason Berry.
