Babies cost too much money, especially when they grow up and want to go to college. How much simpler now, during our current recession, not to have any. Or not any more that you’re already paying for. That’s the gist of of today’s New York Times story on the vasectomy boom. It’s a cute little trend piece with a photo and featured subjects from Seattle: Dr. Charles Wilson of The Vasectomy Clinic, and a patient, Michael Swogger. The latter, age 30, is described thusly: “laid off in January from his job as a Microsoft software test engineer. With three children and another on the way, he and his wife decided it was time for a vasectomy.”Add to that the fact that Swogger is a brave young dude for consenting to appear in the story, a guy setting a responsible example for us all. And if you should meet him at a bar or Mariners game, buy that man a beer! But, please, no dick jokes.
