At 6:30 this morning, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson got a call from the Texas Rangers.

Apparently, Wilson was already in the middle of his morning work out when the Rangers picked him as part of the normally uneventful Rule 5 draft that ends Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings. Though, according to ESPN, he has “expressed a desire to come to spring training and work out,” Wilson is steadfast in his commitment to the pigskin.”I love baseball,” he said. “It’s a relaxing sport and a good sport. I’ve played it my whole life. But football is my first love.”Rangers’ General Manager Jon Daniels was more than happy to oblige. “We want to be respectful of where he’s at right now. I got a chance to talk to him, and he was excited. We wanted to welcome him to the organization and told him, ‘Don’t be insulted if you don’t hear from us again until you’re done playing because we don’t want to get in the way of what you’ve got going on.'”Wilson is no stranger to baseball—before this morning he was in the Colorado Rockies’ system. The Rangers will be paying $12,000 to the Rockies for the opportunity to woo Wilson.
