Angela SterlingYou should. I sat through a dress rehearsal earlier this week and it was absolutely lovely. I lean more toward the lowbrow end of the scale when it comes to entertainment, but it’s nice to feel “cultured” sometimes. Besides, I enjoy guzzling white wine and leering at handsome dudes in tights. In case you need a quick refresher: Swan Lake is the love story of Odette, a woman trapped in the body of a swan, who falls in love with Prince Siegfried Chaos ensues when an evil sorcerer’s daughter tries to snatch Odette’s man and destroy her. It’s pretty heart wrenching stuff, but Kent Stowell’s choreography and good ol’ Tchaikovsky’s music make heart wrenching stuff come off incredibly gorgeous.During my visit the roles of Odette and Prince Siegfried were played by Mara Vinson and Seth Orza, but the leads vary week to week and you can check PNB’s casting page to find out who’s performing when. (Mara, the woman in the photo posted above, had a baby about nine months ago. Shit. I’ve never had a baby and I’m still three times her size.) Aside from that bitter sentiment, I adored Swan Lake. It’s an enchanting production filled with haunting melodies and stunning dance sequences. …Oh, and this guy on the left, Stanko Milov, occasionally plays Prince Siegfriend and he’s dreamy. He was onstage for a couple scenes and the ladies (okay, mostly me) were giggling like schoolgirls. If you want to see Swan Lake (or Milov), the production runs through April 19. You can find more information on PNB’s website.
