Along with North Bend’s Tom Peterson, Wenatchee’s Tyler Farrar is one of the few Washington State bicycle racers competing over in Europe. As The New York Times
reports, Farrar is a particularly good sprinter, and he’s finished on the podium during the Giro currently underway in Italy. It is, after the Tour de France, the second toughest and most famous bike race in the world.Farrar rides for the Garmin-Slipstream (team profile). At 24, he’s a rising star who might–like teammate Peterson–ride the Tour de France in July. But in longer stage races like the Tour and the Giro, they’re usually expected to ride in support of Christian Vande Velde, the team leader. Still, Farrar has placed second twice at this year’s Giro. In another flat stage that permits a group sprint, he may have a chance to win.
