Alexey Karetnikov, the 12th (and final?) member of a Russian spy ring meant to infiltrate U.S. policy-making circles, worked at Microsoft. The 20-something graduate of St. Petersburg State (the Fightin’ Ruskies) was recently deported after spending nine months as a software tester on the Redmond campus. Karetnikov was apparently in the early stages of establishing his cover. Which means he was probably about as successful a spy as the other inept Russian agents based in Seattle.
