Accused cop-killer Maurice Clemmons benefitted from the lax standards of Jail Sucks

Accused cop-killer Maurice Clemmons benefitted from the lax standards of Jail Sucks Bail Bonds.Jail Sucks Bail Bonds is in a tight squeeze. The Chehalis-based company that agreed to spring accused cop-killer Maurice Clemmons after two other agencies declined is the last in a long line of swinging gates that ultimately led to the deaths of four Lakewood police officers. On their web site becausejailsucks.com, the bond company that probably wishes it had a more professional name and url right now says that had it “known Clemmons was capable of such a heinous crime we never would have posted this bond.” Well, yeah.Jail Sucks goes on to say that there were a lot of things they didn’t know about Clemmons. Which is an odd way for them to mount a public defense of their business practices. We met with Clemmons twice during the week of the 23rd, once when he was released and again on the 24th. Nothing at that time seemed out of the ordinary. None of the people co-signing for him said anything about his mental status or previous convictions in Arkansas, which again, we had no knowledge of or really any way of knowing about. We were also not aware he had been notified that he was facing a life sentence here in Washington as well, if convicted of the Rape of Child case (the only reason I am aware of this is from reading a report on it). Had we known this, we would not have posted this bond. Had we known Clemmons was telling people he was “Jesus” or that the “world was going to end” soon and to “watch the news”, we never would have posted this bond.Whether or not Jail Sucks is in any way responsible for Clemmons’ behavior is not a moral issue. It’s a business issue.Clemmons was rejected by the other two agencies because he had a history of skipping court dates. That made him a business risk. Jail Sucks took that risk because they’re comfortable with that kind of client — on their site they advertise that they’ll actually chauffeur convicts without rides to their court date.Based on its website, Jail Sucks looks like the bail bond equivalent of the used car dealer who let’s you get drive off the lot with no money down. In other words, in an industry that feels low-down to begin with, they’re sub-prime. Exactly the kind of partners Clemmons was in the market for.
