According to Seattle Police, a firefighter from Everett had a very bad day yesterday.

As Jonah Spangenthal-Lee reported on the SPD “Blotter” blog this afternoon, a 60-year-old firefighter was arrested by detectives Wednesday after showing up in Seattle for what he believed to be a “rendezvous with an underage prostitute.” Only, in true “To Catch A Predator” fashion, the underage prostitute turned out to be an undercover detective. Police say the meeting was arranged after, “The Vice/High-Risk Victims Unit (HRVU) detective … exchanged messages with the 60-year-old firefighter during an online sting targeting men looking for sex with underage girls, and the man had agreed to meet up for sex.”

According to Spangenthal-Lee’s post, the firefighter showed up to the “rendezvous” with “a supply of condoms, sex toys, and personal lubricants.”

Police say that the man, who has not yet been named, was booked into the King County Jail on charges of commercial exploitation of a child and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.

The Associated Press reports that the firefighter has been placed on leave.

UPDATE: City of Everett Communications Director Meghan Pembroke responded to Seattle Weekly’s call for comment this morning, saying via email: “We are aware that one of our employees was arrested in Seattle Wednesday. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. He was hired in 1991 and currently holds the position of firefighter/paramedic. He was not on duty Wednesday.”
