A little over a month ago we reported on auto warranty solicitations that were causing headaches for local dealers who say the offers for extended warranties are a scam. David Tabb, head of Auto One Warranty of California, one of the companies sending solicitations, was previously in trouble for his role in a Hollywood and sports memorabilia scam. He sold undercover FBI agents forged merchandise during the Bureau’s sting known as Operation Bullpen. Auto One has an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.Calls to Tabb’s office and attorney were not returned prior to the story, but today he called to say he’s turned his life around since Operation Bullpen and runs an entirely legitimate business. “We work our butt off here,” he says.He added that he is appealing the BBB rating and is happy to make sure any dissatisfied customers receive full refunds. He suggested that rather than calling the 800 or 888 number on the Web site, call the company directly at (949) 475-9500.
