A controversial FBI ad campaign picturing wanted terrorists — all of whom

A controversial FBI ad campaign picturing wanted terrorists — all of whom are members of races from predominantly Muslim regions — is being pulled from Metro buses.

As we reported last week, U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, fired the first salvo against the ad, saying it would exacerbate anti-Muslim sentiment in the U.S. He says terrorists come in all colors (though the FBI’s list of terrorists is almost entirely derived from radical Islamic groups).

McDermott’s assertion, soon joined by leaders including Mayor Mike McGinn, caused a blinding white rage in our comment section, left by what we can only assume are hold-over Sarah Palin fanboys.

McGinn broke the news that FBI was yanking the ads last night.

“After a productive meeting, the lead investigator for the State Department’s “Rewards for Justice” program, Tim Corso, acknowledged our concerns with the ad that featured the language “Global Faces of Terrorism” along with photos of men from the Philippines, Somalia, Russia, Sudan and Algeria. He has agreed to take down this particular ad and to work with community advocates in doing outreach in Seattle going forward.

This is encouraging as Seattle is the first city to receive these ads and the recommendations provided by the community will drive how the program is implemented in other cities across the country.
