Wilco’s May 30 set will be among those broadcast by KEXP and NPR.KEXP hosts over 500 in-studio sessions a year, streams live sets from SXSW in Austin, and took over Ballard last weekend. But, says executive director Tom Mara, “This is the most ambitious live broadcast project we’ve taken on.”In partnership with NPR, KEXP will be recording, streaming, and broadcasting sets live from this weekend’s sold-out Sasquatch! festival. Entire sets from the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Foo Fighters, and Wilco will be recorded, streamed online, and archived at KEXP.org as well as on npr.org/sasquatch, and made available on NPR Music’s iPhone app from the 28th to the 30th (coverage starts Friday on KEXP).This is the first time KEXP’s been able to offer live streams from the festival, though they’ve been trying for years. Working with NPR, says Mara, has allowed them to deal with the logistics of streaming from a remote location like the Gorge. NPR’s Ann Powers, a former Seattleite, will host the coverage, along with NPR Music’s Bob Boilen. Full-set streams confirmed thus far include: Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie, Deerhunter, Foo Fighters, Flying Lotus, J Mascis, Major Lazer, Old 97’s, Robyn, Smith Westerns, Surfer Blood, the Thermals, Twin Shadow, Washed Out, and Wilco.Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
