While there are myriad reasons to get excited over Mt. Fuji’s new Long Winters/Spiral Stairs split–Spiral Stairs is the intense solo project of Pavement co-founder Scott Kannberg; the 7-inch comes on clear vinyl; both the bands on the split are pretty awesome–the biggest surprise is that the album includes a brand new Long Winters’ song.

The 7-inch, out today, includes “Connections in Nashville,” the first single from the Long Winters’ upcoming LP on Barsuk Records. Does this mean that the new album might actually have a release date? (The band hasn’t released an album since 2006; their most recent new song was “Not Moving to Portland” on the GIVE Seattle compilation last year.) Spiral Stairs’ song, “Dreams They Guide Us,” is a leftover song from last year’s The Real Feel.If you’re not willing to order the whole 7-inch (you totally should, since the first 500 copies are on that clear vinyl), you can order just one song for $1.29 on iTunes.
