Watching Born Anchors perform for the first time last night was a lot of fun. I’ve blogged about these boys before and how solid I think their recorded material sounds on-line. I’m well aware of how limited digital-quality music can be blaring through a computer speaker so I was glad to head to El Corazon last night (only an hour after getting home from work) to go and see them in the flesh. As soon as I walked in the door it felt like a singular version of pop-punk mayhem was being unleashed on stage. The talented three-piece were playing really tight, short songs (many of which were recorded recently) and most of the crowd was really into it. That says a lot for an all-ages Seattle show where folks usually just stand there with their hands in their pockets. But heads were bopping, feet were tapping, and the energy coming from the stage got people to loosen up a bit and have fun which was good to see. The band only played eight songs as they had a 30 minute time slot, but they used it well hitting the crowd with heavy bass and guitar licks plus blitzkrieg drumming.I asked the group’s lead singer, Jason, what the set list was and he goes, “to be honest, most of those songs don’t have names yet.” They did play “In Disguise” and one of my favorites, “Cascading” both of which will be on the band’s upcoming album, Spezzatura. But it sounds like they’ve already got a follow-up album finished if they ever blow-the-fuck-up so at least they’re prepared.
