Throne of BoneI work at KEXP and go to school on the weekends. Consequently, weekends aren’t really weekends for me. My respite essentially commences on Tuesday evening, and I’m very pleased that tonight’s show at the Comet is the perfect kick-off.Local metal compatriots Throne of Bone and Guns of Barisal are celebrating the release of their new, split 7-inch. Throne of Bone, who I first encountered at an underground warehouse party last month and caught again a week ago at the Jewel Box Theater, impress me more every time I see them. Undeniably evil in spirit, freakishly attractive (I keep waiting for some modeling agency to show up and just cart angel-faced frontman Michael Freiburger off to New York for an Armani shoot), and sonically engrossing, they don’t fall neatly into any metal sub-genre, but will please progressive metal fans who still appreciate the classics and the NWOBHM. The songs up on their MySpace really don’t do them justice, but their live show is a whole different beast.
