This may very well be one of busiest weeks in Damien Jurado’s musical life: His second band, Hoqiuam, released its debut album, he’s got a show with the Robinsons on Friday night, and he posted his third weekly recording to MySpace. Titled “Wherever I May Lay,” this song is a more upbeat than the previous two. Jurado’s voice is higher and more cheerful as he sings, “the shadows of my worries are no more.” His guitar is pop-tinged and temp is faster-paced. The strangest part of “Wherever I May” is that it ends abruptly. There’s no fade to silence or any indication an ending is coming; a verse ends, Jurado stops singing and playing, and that’s it. Let’s hope that’s not foreshadowing the fate of these weekly recordings.
