There were some good comments yesterday to my post on why record labels don’t offer their artists health insurance. This comment left by Abe was rather intriguing:cloudy 1990s memories tell me that Built To Spill required health insurance as part of their deal when they signed with Warner. So, I thought I’d put the question out there to anyone who has either been on a major label (Mr. Novoselic, perhaps?) or anyone who has worked for the majors: Do major labels have the ability to offer their artists health insurance? If so, how is it that they can do so and not the indie labels?
