Roaming Herds of BuffaloRoaming Herds of BuffaloMay 3, 2012, self-released, roamingherdsofbuffalo.comNewly formed indie four-piece Roaming Herds of Buffalo forge a sound somewhere in between The Shins’ melody-heavy pop, The Fruit Bats’ jangly schematics, and the groove-jam rock of Doug Martsch and Built to Spill. These eight tunes are catchy yet oddball, and you’ll get a good taste on “All Of Them,” a reverb-soaked pop track containing the words, “Now we’re moved by most everything/Bloody feet, wallets, and shark teeth.” It doesn’t make much more sense in the context of the song, and Herds seems to be more concerned with perky hooks than compelling lyrics, but if it’s an irreverent and uptempo pop sound you crave, Herds hits the spot–and for a first release, the production value’s pretty solid, too.
