Renee McMahonWatch a slideshow of Monday at Sasquatch 2009, featuring Grizzly Bear, Monotonix, Santigold, Erykah Badu, and more.I’m still trying to catch my breath after Santigold’s set on the mainstage. She blew me away, and I was dancing so much that I didn’t have much time to take notes (not that I needed to). She had every ounce of stage presence that I thought she would, and was one of the best acts I’ve seen all weekend. Since releasing her self-titled album last year Santigold ( formerly Santogold) has been on fire, and she doesn’t show any signs of stopping. Props to brown women like Santi White and Erykah Badu, on later tonight, making music that they love! There was just something about Grizzly Bear that I just did not like. Maybe it was the annoyingly tuned vocals that covered up the decent jazz-inspired music in the background. Or maybe they just aren’t outdoor speaker music. I can imagine that these guys sound way more dramatic on a record, but live ( and especially at the Gorge) their sound was not concentrated or bold. The sound escaped me, and so did the point for that matter.
