Myspace page, turned bug-eyed, slackjawed, and all sorts of goosebump-y by the carefully constructed chaos and layer upon layer of looping, meandering melody. Channeling the ambient beauty of the Album Leaf, the repetitive, tribal drumming of Animal Collective, and the rough-edged psychedelia of Caribou, Netherfriends are a powerful concoction of melody and noise. They’ve gotten the ever-important Pitchfork seal of approval (appearing at this summer’s Pitchfork Music Festival in their hometown of Chicago) and are currently on a mission to play in all 50 states and write songs in all of them. Also, If you can’t see them tonight, they’re also playing at the Rendezvous/Jewelbox Theatre on September 12, on their way back up to Alaska.
