Norman WongMontreal’s Stars made a name for themselves with their frothy, melodic songs with darker lyrics about wars, fighting, death, and melancholy, as heard on 2003’s Heart and 2004’s Set Yourself On Fire – both near masterpieces of dream-pop – and the solid but less memorable In Our Bedroom After The War. Stars’ newest record – their first in three years – is called The Five Ghosts and will be released on June 22. The band dropped the first single, “Fixed,” today. It’s definitely an uplifting song – sounds like they’re sticking with their usual formula of springy synthesizers and Amy Millan’s delicate and sweet vocals – which I’m okay with. Stars can write some of the prettiest, cleanest-sounding pop music out there.
