Nirvana Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

In a long overdue decision, Nirvana was officially voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today.

Dave Grohl gave this quote on the honor:”For once… I’m speechless. From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to… the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’d like to thank the committee not only for this induction, but also for recognizing Nirvana for what we were: pure rock and roll. Most of all, thank you to all of the fans that have supported rock and roll throughout the years, and to Kurt and Krist, without whom I would not be here today.”

Other 2014 inductees announced today include KISS, Hall and Oates, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt.

Last year, fellow Seattleites Quincy Jones and Heart were also inducted.

Wimps Release New Single “Distraction”

Local punks Wimps released the first song from their upcoming EP Party at the Wrong Time, due out through Help Yourself Records on Jan 21. The EP looks like it will rock a hotdog riding a skateboard on the cover, the same design that graces the band’s new holiday sweaters.

Like all good Wimps songs, “Distraction” is less than 2 minutes long and features lots of shouting about the mundane, occasionaly depressing going-ons of normal everyday life. This time around, there’s a “doot-doot” mouth solo, an often underutilized weapon in every musician’s arsenal.

The Fenix Rises Again (For the 6th Time)

After shuttering five times, the sixth incarnation of the appropriately named Fenix night club is opening up at 124 S. Washington St on New Years Eve. According to owner Rick Wyatt, “The club will feature a 400-capacity street-level showroom, with a stage and full bar, as well as a large mezzanine overlooking the main floor. The club includes an underground space, Level One, with its own bar and stage.”

Opening night will feature local all-lady AC/DC cover band Hells Bells.
