Maynard Keenan’s Puscifer plays the Moore tonight and tomorrow.Contrary to rumors I had heard from other journalists, Tool frontman Maynard Keenan is not a nightmare to interview. Steer clear of prison sex jokes and chat him up about Puscifer or Caduceus, his Arizona winery, and he’s a perfectly pleasant fellow. Here are a couple of snippets from our conversation that were left out of this week’s Rocket Queen column:You’ve taken out some of my favorite bands associated with this region, namely Kinski and Big Business. Are there any other local bands that you’ve been attracted to lately?Honestly, I’ve got myself so dug in my room or in my studio or in our little high school in Jerome or in the wineries, so I’m really…i have no finger on the pulse of what’s happening. Someone has to pull me out of the wineries…How involved are you in the day-to-day operation of the vineyards, in terms of the scientific side of production?I definitely rely on professionals to make those decisions, but the overall vision of what I’d like to have happen with our land choices, with our varietal choices and how its drained [is mine]. I’m definitely growing with the project.
