Last week, there seemed to be a definitive slowdown in the number of albums and reissues that came out on vinyl. Thankfully, that’s not the case this week. There are enough new projects that were released on vinyl yesterday that crate diggers would have to take a out a loan to buy it all. Not only did groups like Junior Boys and Against Me drop new albums in LP format, but there are some stellar reissues from a lot of groups that you’ll probably love. After the jump, vinyl columnist Jason Ferguson gives you the scoop on some new, and old gems, that are in record stores as of this week. Amazon.com has an exclusive lockdown on a vinyl/CD package of Maxwell’s new album, BLACKSummers’night, although import 2LP versions may be popping up in local record shops. Also on the limited tip is the new EP from St. Louis’ Radical Sons; their Throwing Knives set is limited to just 300 copies, with each of the covers designed and hand-screened by the group. Reissue-wise, this week is something of a bonanza, with legendary dreampop trio Galaxie 500 finding their entire Rough Trade catalog getting repressed on vinyl, while Matador continues on their rewaxing campaign, with catalog discs from Yo La Tengo, Cat Power and the New Pornographers. Mopesters rejoice (as much as possible): the Smiths’ catalog is again available on vinyl, although these 180g remastered repressings are import-only. New Releases Against Me: The Original Cowboy
