Last Thursday night, local label Barsuk Records threw a holiday party at the Salmon Bay Eagles’ Club that was a de facto celebration of the latest artists to enter their fold: Seattle-based pop savants the Globes. While Rocky Votalato, members of Nada Surf, and Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter mingled with Long Winters leader John Roderick in the charmingly arcane social hall, the Globes basked in the glow of their fruitful studio time with legendary producer John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Death Cab For Cutie, the Blood Brothers). Fans can expect their Barsuk debut in 2010. Reached via email, label co-founder Josh Rosenfeld clarified that nothing was set in stone yet. “Not sure when the Globes record is going to come out — we love the band and have been talking to them about working together,” he affirmed. “But we don’t have any agreement in place and nothing has been decided. I suspect that if we do wind up deciding to work together then we probably won’t have anything to announce until the early part of next year.”
