Kid Sister is a sassy club rapper based in Chicago who made some noise late in 2007 when she released “Pro Nails,” a bouncy nail salon salute that featured the Midas-esque Kanye West. She’s in town tonight in anticipation of her full-length ULTRAVIOLET, and I’ll be damned if we don’t start hearing her souped-up party jams blaring out the speakers of scenesters come 2010. Kid Sister is reminiscent of Lil Mama, and not just because they’re both ladies who rap about accessories (see: “Lipgloss.”) Both have a playful, punchy nonchalance to their delivery with lyrics that frequently entertain the topic of how fly they are and a style that heavily draws from what was vogue when they were born (the 80’s). But while Lil Mama might be jocking the NYC hip-hop illuminati and channeling Beyonce to questionable ends, Kid Sister steps up to the skinny jeaned dubsteppers, harnessing airhorns and strobe-like breakbeats to make people move. Despite her sometimes juvenile posturing, I’m pretty convinced that Lil Mama has skills. Can Kid Sister step up to her own hype and deliver?I’m curious, and I’ll be checking it out. If you want to win tickets to see Kid Sister tonight, e-mail me or direct message @swreverb on Twitter your name with your full name and e-mail address and you’ll be entered to win a pair. I’ll do a random drawing at 3 PM.
