Just got word that Light in the Attic Records is going to be releasing a “lost” Betty Davis album this fall. Pictured on the left, it’s the same Betty Davis that Brian Barr understandably went long on two years ago and lovers of exploratory funk should rejoice in the news that fresh Betty Davis material will be on store shelves very soon. The never heard before album is called Is It Love or Desire, and there’s a good chance that it’s full of the gritty, experimental soul and mind-blowing self-expression that helped make Davis (born Betty Mabry) marginally famous 35 years ago. The release date for Is It Love or Desire is October 6. On the same day, LITA is also reissuing Davis’ classic Nasty Gal, as well. Check out some words from the record label below. Is It Love Or Desire (1976), is a little known gem in the Davis catalog. After cutting Nasty Gal for Island Records, Davis recorded her most personal and expressive record to date at Louisiana’s remote Studio In The Country. Unfortunately a creative difference with the label caused the record to be unexpectedly shelved and was never released to the public… Now, thirty-plus years later, Light In The Attic is proud to announce that Betty Davis’ time has arrived!
