Joey Lyon, What Makes Me TickOut now, self-releasedWebsiteIn Seattle, or anywhere else, anyone who picks up an acoustic guitar calls himself a songwriter. Lyon manages to stand out by casting his songs against a piano-driven rock template, rather than a folk one. It’s a choice that fits his voice better anyway (it’s ragged and strained at times, not at all like the pure tenor that seems a prerequisite for folk singers in this city), and although his sound is still developing, the ideas and melodies are there.Lyon plays a release show for What Makes Me Tick 7 p.m. this Thursday at Q Cafe. Listen to the title track after the jump. What Makes Me Tick by Joey Lyon
