JessixaBrian J. Barr, left, with Meatface, and Aja Pecknold. There was blurry-eyed day at SXSW 2007 in which I found myself sandwiched between (former SW music editor/current contributor) Brian Barr and (SW contributor) Justin Farrar at a virtually empty TGI Friday’s in a hotel lobby, catching a few moments of “quiet” before (or was it after?) heading over to see Oakley Hall. Damn, those boys can talk. I did most of the listening/drinking/eating and let them do the analyzing. It was Bud Light-fueled music geekery at its best. Anyone who’s ever had the occasion to pick Barr’s brain knows he can connect the dots between any two artists faster than you can say Kevin Bacon. Farrar’s right up there with him. Today at 3 p.m. you have the chance to listen to Barr and Farrar (a duo known as the 6Rs), go to town on archival label Mississippi Records during Farrar’s Strawberry Flats Radio show on AshevilleFM. Tune in early, and keep some wings and tall boys close, y’all.
