In this heat, a band has got to be fucking good, to want to sit in congested traffic for an hour just to watch somebody perform. Hell, you could be in traffic for more than an hour today considering the Mariners just played a home game. But I’ll be honest, heading down to Tacoma this evening to watch Shook Ones play is well worth it. Every time I hear their music I’m blown away at how good these guys are at soaking up the essence of pure early ’90s punk and spitting it back at audiences in ways that people all over the world are starting to love.Despite the fact that Shook Ones are a Bellingham via Seattle group, there’s nothing “local” about this band and they know it. They’re label is setting up a national and then European tour for the boys right now and tonight’s performance in Tacoma is quite possibly the last time they’ll be playing these parts all year. Let’s hope that’s not the case, but if you’re a fan of true punk, or like any of the brutally gorgeous songs on their newest album, The Unquoteable A.M.H., then you need to get your ass down to the Viaduct in Tacoma this evening. It’s $10 and doors are 7 p.m. It’s worth it.
