I’m one of those weirdos that still listens to cassettes quite frequently. Part of this is simply because I have a tape deck in my car, but much of it is because I still have a rather staggering collection of stellar mixed tapes. Obviously, they endure with wildly varying degrees of playback quality. There are ones that are lovingly warped to the point of unlistenability, but there are also many that hiss and warble in ways that just add character to songs I already love. “TK” by My Bloody Valentine (from the Glider EP) arguably improves with surreal fluctuations in tempo and sonic density.
