I’m a sucker for that peppy girl group sound that producer extraordinaire (and murderer) Phil Spector made so popular in the ’60s. A rather large crop of bands have emerged to give the genre a contemporary twist in the last couple years, including The Pipettes and Those Dancing Days. But of all the new acts, Brooklyn hailing trio The Vivian Girls has generated the most buzz. Their self titled album sounds like something The Shangri Las would have recorded, except with a surf punk twist a la The Wipers. It’s infectious as hell.
