I was thrilled by Iphigenia in Tauris last night – my experience being best expressed by Gavin Borchert’s review this week. So I won’t dwell on the opera itself except to say that for anyone who thinks they might want to check out the genre some day, this would be a good place to start. On an only semi-related note, Safeco regulars know the man who plays things like “Oh When the Saints Go Marching In” on a tuba outside. He plays at about a fifth-grade band level, but what he lacks in ability, he makes up in charm. He was outside the McCaw Hall last night as I left playing a shaky version of “Danny Boy.” It was really touching. Yet another reason to go.
