Hardly Art is slowly releasing more details about Carissa’s Wierd’s summer reunion and the July 13 release of They’ll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003, a greatest hits compilation. The album’s track listing is old news, but one of those 16 remastered songs has been released as an MP3. “Die” was originally featured on I Before E, a compilation album released in 2004, Carissa’s Wierd’s last record before their break-up a year later. (Likely because it’s a comp, I Before E isn’t being reissued this fall along with the band’s three studio albums. If you really want to own the album, a used copy goes for $75 on Amazon.) “Die,” as the title suggest, contains some of the band’s sadder lyrics, but the instrumentation is more upbeat than a better known track like “They’ll Only Miss You When You Leave.” It’s a great single, which is probably why Hardly Art pressed a small run of pink vinyl 7-inch “Die” singles with “Sharing a Hole”–a song previously only available on a self-released tour EP and therefore nearly impossible to find–on the B-side. The single is probably your only chance to get a recorded version of “Sharing a Hole,” since it’s not on the upcoming comp, either. The singles will be available for free “at select independent retail outlets,” according to Hardly Art, starting next week. The first 50 pre-orders of the comp from the Hardly Art website will also receive a free copy of the 7-inch.Carissa’s Wierd plays the Showbox on July 9. Tickets are now on sale.
