Fearless leader of the Thundercats, Lion-OI am resisting the urge to bite the hard, bubblegum flavored candy that I’m sucking on. I got it last night at Showbox Sodo lounge- oh crap- there it went. I can never wait very long. Luckily I was given a whole bag when I walked through the door. The occasion? Hard Candy, a new monthly night that apparently features free sugar everywhere you turn, rock music and eye candy as well- the six Sodo Lounge screens were all playing the oh-so-nostalgic Thundercats (Lion-O! Snarf! Tygra! Ro-bear!) followed by Kids in the Hall. On the bill for the night were Weird Lords and New Luck Toy and a very special guest audience member: the nearly-recovered Kim Warnick with cane in tow, who was in high spirits and looking spectacular. I think it had to have been a combination of the sugar, booze and a rowdy representation of Cha Cha co-workers that turned out to support their own (both bands have bar employees as members), but the whole place became a kind of neon-lit rec room full of oversized kids dancing, jumping and running around like crazy. The PA went out three times during NLT’s set. It was all quite beautiful.
