DEL!!!Long, long ago, in a mall far, far away, Del the Funky Homosapien asked, “Why you wanna get funky with me?” Back then, maybe the ladies dissed him; now, who wouldn’t wanna fuck with the dude? He’s one of the elder statesmen of what we now know as “conscious” hip hop (a classification that’s starting to get obnoxious: can’t hip hop be intelligent without needing its own category?) Anyway, the man is inarguably of the best MCs in the history of hip hop, his new album with Tame One, Parallel Uni-Verses, is damn good, and people, if you’ve never seen him before, you need to call in sick to work tomorrow and head to Neumos tonight. Yeah, it’s $20, but since you can download his new album, Funk Man, for free, $20 seems like a pretty good price to me. Bukue One, Yirim Seck and Life Cycle open up the show (doors are at 8 p.m.). For all you people who saw him at Bumbershoot ’08, but were totally bushed by the time he went on Monday night, here’s your chance to go crazy.
