Deafening house music pours out of See Sound Lounge (115 Blanchard Street) on Friday night. Aesthetically appealing patrons look as though they coordinated with one another before arriving. There’s an abundance of mini dresses, blazers, spiked heels, and spiked hair. We’re greeted with a $10 cover charge (guys and girls pay up here) since it’s after 10 p.m. The fee seems a little steep, given that the dance club is far smaller than its peers Heaven and Last Supper Club. But that doesn’t deter anyone, as evidenced by the elbow-to-elbow crowd. The dance floor is filled with sweat and hormones, the private booths are all occupied, and it takes 10 minutes to get to the front of the bar.Sea Sound Lounge serves draft beer–but nobody appeared to be drinking it during our visit. Instead, they stuck to cocktails with names like “Pama-la Anderson” and “Metrosexual”–the latter being an accurate description of a majority of the males, many of whom are holding lemon drop martinis in their muscular, faux tanned arms. It’s a sweet scene, if you fit the profile. The DJs are excellent, the cocktails tasty, and the crowd damn good looking. But you’ve got to be able to stomach diabetes-inducing drinks and ready to act like you’re starring in an episode of the Real World to really enjoy yourself. If not, keep walking. Shorty’s is just a couple blocks away.
