Century Ballroom

OK, so the swing phenomenon fizzled as a hipster trend. That hasn’t stopped a lot of people from flocking to dance halls, and the shiny, spacious dance floor at Seattle’s magnificent Century Ballroom has been particularly busy. Almost hidden on the second floor of a building near the heart of Capitol Hill, this 300-person capacity room hosts salsa dancing, monthly gospel brunches, and all-ages swing nights—and occasional concerts with national acts. The Ballroom, which also sports a restaurant and full bar, got spiffed up with a major renovation a few years back, but the gilded features, cavernous ceiling, and fine-tuned sound make the Century seem like a place from another time. 915 E.
