Cairo’s hosting an out-of-town act tomorrow night–Vancouver, B.C.’s Will Anderson of the one-man-band Weed. If you, like me, are into the scuzzy, lo-fi, distorted thing, this show is a good opportunity to check out an artist of that genre who may not have your attention yet but truly deserves it. Weed’s latest effort, the Down in the Valley EP, was self-recorded by Anderson in Brooklyn and Vancouver; the songs are heavily textured and despite the distortion effects, they’re also quite upbeat and and melodic. Thanks to the magnificent wonders of bandcamp, you can stream Down in the Valley in its entirety. If you like what you hear, you can purchase the MP3s + a limited edition cassette of Down in the Valley via Orchid Tapes. (I like that the packaging includes the Churchill quote, “If you’re going through hell, keep going,” an apt motto for today’s DIY musician). And definitely hit up that show tonight.Weed plays Cairo tomorrow night with Neighbors and Slashed Tires. The show is all-ages and starts at 8 p.m. with a $5 cover.
