I’d already been up for a couple hours, and was starving, hadn’t had any coffee, and had been turned away by two other establishments. Then I remembered The 5 Point, the 24-7 bar/diner/dive in Belltown. By 5:30 (or was it 6?) I was there.The idea that an establishment never closes is a footnote to a business’ selling points until you find yourself hungry at an unholy hour of the day. Then it becomes the only thing in the world you want to find. There’s nothing more comforting than the knowledge of a safe house — an embassy — when you need it most. This is the true genius of restaurants that never close. As good as the food was, though, it was the music that fueled me for the day. It wasn’t anything fancy — just some Stones, Zeppelin, and Modest Mouse. But you don’t want fancy for breakfast, you want bacon and eggs. The 5 Point’s got both. Even at 5 a.m.
