Bob Bogle of the VenturesIn less than an hour, funeral services are set to start for legendary rock guitarist Bob Bogle who passed away at his home in Vancouver, WA last Sunday. According to a notice online, a closed casket ceremony will be performed at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Vancouver at 12:30 p.m. today Bogle influenced a lot of guitarists over the years during his five decade run with the Ventures. The Tacoma-based band were influential to not only Northwest rock groups, but also national acts as well. Since the announcement of Bogle’s passing, a lot has been written about our local rock icon, but possibly the best tribute came from Spin online editor (and Washington native) William Goodman who pinned this article yesterday. It’s thorough, comprehensive, and has some links to popular Ventures songs like “Walk the Line,” “Hawaii Five-O” and others where you can get a feel for Bogle’s style. Check out that link and jam out to the Ventures today if you can. Although their music certainly lives on, Bogle will be missed.
