Before Seattle’s Benjamin Verdoes packed up and moved to New York, the singer/songwriter who serves as one half of Iska Dhaaf dropped a beautiful solo album called The Evil Eye. At this summer’s Timber! Music Festival, Verdoes performed a stripped down version of one of the album’s standout tracks, “Forest of Your Mind,” in an actual forest, captured here by local production team The Art Dept.

Verdoes tells Seattle Weekly the song was written as a gift for his wife, Ifrah:

“It’s mostly about being in a situation where the people around you are trying to make you into something, but knowing you have to take your own path. It is my celebration of her courage and strength. We all have thoughts and identites that emerge from an early age, but there are those certain reoccurring ones that whisper to you about who you are and what you may actually want, even if those around you want something else for you. I basically tried to interpret her story and then make it merge with where we met and all the joy that it brought for both of us.”

Timber! Music Festival’s winter installment, Timbrrr!, is right around the corner. Check out the lineup here if you like what you see above.
