?Artist: Golden TriangleAlbum: Double JointerLabel: Hardly ArtRelease Date: Tuesday, March 2, 2010Rating (Skip, Stream, or Buy): Stream, but you might want to buy vinyl at their show, because this sounds like a band that truly builds a fanbase with their live show.Download: “Jinx”It’s a tad mystifying as to why Hardly Art’s most recent signees insisted on releasing “Neon Noose” as their first single, because the rest of the album is so much more intriguing. In fact, “Neon Noose” functions almost in opposing definition to the traditional function of a single: it stands stronger with the rest of the songs at its side.Opening track “Cinco De Mayo” clocks in just under the two-minute mark, sounding like the sort of dirty-sweet, tamborine-heavy calling card that pricks the ears of any girl group or garage rock fan. Coasting on naturally into the more languid “Blood and Arrow”, the intertwined voices of Vashti Windish and Carly Rabalais stretch out further, showing off their darker shades, while the guitars unfold beyond the straight jangle and bounce, bathed in rich reverb swirls of classic, mid-’60s psych. The album’s remaining nine tracks surf briskly between those two points, culminating impressively with closer “Arson Wells”, quite possibly the best of the bunch.
